Participant in Acomplia Studies Excited by 30-Pound Weight Loss

One participant in the early Acomplia studies has recently reported on her experience in Newsweek magazine.

When Karen Helmick got married in 1974, the 5-foot-4 blonde already tipped the scales at 165 pounds. By 2001 the pound-a-year creep had nudged her to 213.

Then she heard about a trial of an experimental weight-loss drug called rimonabant. During the yearlong study in 2002, she lost 30 pounds.

"I had fewer cravings," she says.

"I want a lifetime supply of this stuff," the West Virginia grandmother subsequently told the Bloomberg news service.
